Song Lyrics That Stayed with Me

Music has always been a big part of my life. I've started singing in choirs and performing in musicals even before I could read or write and played the flute for ten years. Even when I wasn't making music myself, it still surrounded me at all times - I've always listened to it whenever or wherever I could.

Because music has played such a vital part in my life, it's not only the tunes themselves, but also the lyrics they carry that have stuck with me - I write them down on snippest and plaster them across notebooks, pinboards and the like to always have them near me if a situation where I need motivation, comfort or affirmation arises.

So, coming from this musical background, I recently read Erin's blog post on some of her favorite songs - and it inspired me to share some of the song lyrics that have stuck around with me over the years with you!

1. "I'm the hero of the story, don't need to be saved." - Regina Spektor, Hero of the Story

2. "You are beautiful, no matter what they say, words can't bring you down." - Christina Aguilera, Beautiful

3. "Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can't help falling in love with you." - Elvis Presley, Can't Help Falling in Love

4. "I might only have one match, but I can make an explosion." - Rachel Platten, Fight Song

5. "Dreams just aren't enough, I'll be waiting for the real thing - I'll know it by the feeling." - Nickelback, Gotta Be Somebody

6. "You're dripping like a saturated sunrise. You're spilling like an overflowing sink. You're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece." - Halsey, Colors

7. "If today I woke up with you right beside me, like all of this was just some twisted dream, I'd hold you closer than I ever did before." - 5 Seconds of Summer, Amnesia

8. "Love of mine, some day you will die, but I'll be close behind - I will follow you into the dark. No blinding lights or tunnels to gates of white, just our hands clasped tight, waiting for the hint of a spark." - Death Cab For Cutie, I Will Follow You Into The Dark

9. "I'm not scared of dying, I just don't want to - If I'd stop lying I'd just disappoint you." - Robbie Williams, Come Undone

10. "A penny for my thoughts, oh no I'll sell them for a dollar, they're worth so much more after I'm a goner. And maybe then you'll hear the words I'd been singing - funny when you're dead how people start listening." - The Band Perry, If I Die Young

11. "All these places have their moments, with lovers and friends I can still recall. Some are dead and some are living, in my life I've loved them all." - The Beatles, In My Life

12. "I'm starting with the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to change his ways - and no message could have been any clearer: if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at youself and then make a change." - Michael Jackson, Man In The Mirror

13. "And I try to refrain but you're stuck in my brain. An all I do is cry and complain because second's not the same." - Halsey, Is There Somewhere

14. "You're dangerous 'cause you're honest." - U2, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses

15. "War is not the answer because only love can conquer hate." - Marvin Gaye, What's Goin' On

  3. OMG! I love this so so much, half of these lyrics are my fave too. Halsey's Colors is such a hit. It's supposedly written about Matty Healy, a vocalist I am in love with. My current favorite lyric is from The 1975 (Matty's band) song Somebody Else : 'Come on baby, it's not the last time i will see your face, come on baby, I heard you found someone to take my place' & Lorde's song Yellow Flicker beat's one "This is the start of how it all ends, they used to shout my name now they whisper it"

PS: This Elvis Presley's song is so so beautiful.
