What's Waiting on My Bookshelf - February '18

I make no secret of the fact that I'm a huge bookworm and that I'd take a night spent with my nose in a book, snuggled up in bed over a night out pretty much any day - and because I like to basically inhale the books I read in one single setting, I'm constantly on the lookout for new reading material!

Now, as I mentioned in my recent chatty life update, my life has pretty much turned upside down within the last few months, so I hardly had any time at all to just sit down and escape reality for a few hours.

But did that stop me from buying books? Nope. I mean, buying a new book every now and then and telling yourself that the glorious day when you finally manage to sit down and read it will come basically counts as retail therapy, right?

So, naturally, I have accumulated quite the pile of fresh new babies that have been sitting next to my bookshelf - yes, next to it, because I have somehow managed to fill up not one, but two of the shelves I bought when I moved into my flat. Whoops.

But even though it's currently looking like quite the mess, it at least inspired me to share with you the current stand of my to-read list because I've had so many positive reactions when I talked about the last pile of books I had accumulated back in August - so let's get into it!

I first heard about One Of us Is Lying* by Karen M. McManus from someone I'm following on Goodreads, and I was instantly intrigued.
The basic synopsis here is that a jock, a princess, a nerd, a criminal and an outcast walk into detention - and only four of them make it out alive, leading to an insane witch hunt for the killer - it has got to be one of the four who made it out alive, right? So, which one of them is lying?

I've got to admit, putting this one on the list is technically a bit cheaty because I started reading it right after I took the photos and already managed to finish it - but it was honestly so gripping that you can't blame me, I literally couldn't put it down! I can most definitely recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a thrilling, compelling book that you cannot help but read within a day.

How Hard Can Love Be?* by Holly Bourne is actually the sequel to "Am I Normal Yet?", which I mentioned in my last bookshelf post - a book following the story of Evie, a teenage girl diagnosed with OCD trying to fight her way back into normal life after completely losing her footing.

The second installment tells the story of one of Evie's friends who struggles with body positivity and self-love, and I expect it to be just as great - both concerning the story itself as well as how well Holly Bourne manages to handle important issues such as mental health, which she has already managed to prove in the first installment.

Both The Dark Prophecy and The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan are an ode to my childhood.
Ever since I've been a wee little nerd, I've loved Riordan's Percy Jackson series - I've always adored mythology and when I started studying Latin in sixth grade, my interest in Roman and Greek gods grew even more.

As you see, it's no wonder that I've eaten up all the spin-offs this series has produced over the years - these two books being the second and third installment in their respective series.
I honestly cannot recommend the Percy Jackson series enough to you - I know that it's technically classed as "Young Adult", but they're so incredibly witty and full of good quotes and important lessons, so please don't let that scare you away!

Turtles All The Way Down* by John Green has got to be the single most hyped book on my to-read pile. Sooo many people on all of my social media feeds have already read it and voiced their opinions on it, and I've been dodging everything that even remotely had to do with this damn book.

This being a Christmas gift, I literally haven't even read up on its synopsis because I wanted to have the full experience, with all the suprises that go with it - after having a proper John Green phase during what must have been ninth or tenth grade, I've been buzzing for new reading material coming from him so I cannot wait to get into this!

So there we have all the books waiting for me to stick my nose into them during my semester break - however, I'm almost sure I'm going to finish them before I even go back to uni in April, so I'd love it if you had the time to recommend your favorite book to me in the comments!

If you want to keep up with the books I'm reading and what I think of them even more frequently than I talk about them on here, you can befriend me on Goodreads as well!
